HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/9/09) - The Colgate University women's basketball team will host Army in their Patriot League opener this Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Cotterell Court.
The Black Knights lead the all-time series 25-18, after winning both meetings last season, including a 74-54 victory at Cotterell Court on Feb. 9, 2008. Colgate's last win came at home on Jan. 26, 2006 when they defeated Army, 66-58.
The Raiders return to their home court after a 10-day road-trip in which they finished 2-3, defeating Norfolk State and Howard but falling to twice Bryant and Central Connecticut State. Colgate enters their first conference game of the season with an overall record of 4-11.
Leading Colgate in scoring is newcomer Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) who is averaging 16 points a game and scored a career-high 28 points against Norfolk State in just her second game of the season. Sophomore Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) has averaged 10.7 points in 15 starts with the Raiders so far this year. Classmate Georgia Gier (Mercer Island, Wash.) leads Colgate on the boards grabbing an average of 7.2 rebounds per game.
Army enters the game with a 9-5 overall record and is looking to extend their winning streak to five games. The Black Knights are led by pre-season all-league selection, Alex McGuire, who is averaging 12.1 points per game. Sophomore Erin Anthony leads Army in rebounds and blocks, averaging 7.8 boards per game and 3.7 blocks.
