WORCESTER, MA (1/28/09) – Colin Cunningham tallied 13 points and R.J. Evans added 12 points to lead first place Holy Cross to an easy 68-44 win over Colgate Wednesday night at the Hart Center.
Holy Cross improves to 10-11 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League, while Colgate falls to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Freshman Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, GA) was Colgate's leading scorer with 15 points, while Ben Jonson (Dallas, TX) added seven points and four rebounds.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first eight minutes, before Colgate came back to trail 26-20 at halftime. Gyawu led the rally for the Raiders scoring 11 of his team's final 17 points of the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, Colgate was able to cut the Crusader lead to four points, 28-24. Holy Cross put the contest away with a 15-2 run as the Crusaders opened a 43-26 lead with 13:59 left. Holy Cross led by as many as 27 points down the stretch.
Holy Cross shot 52 percent from the field on 25-of-48, while Colgate was a cold 12-of-35 for 34 percent. Colgate hit on 16-of-20 free throws, but was out-rebounded badly, 30-18.
The Raiders will be home on Saturday, when they play host to Navy at 7 p.m.
