HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/14/07)—Colgate University senior
Elizabeth Kennedy (Towaco, N.J.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association 2007 Division I Women’s all-Northeast Region team on Nov. 13. Kennedy is Colgate’s first runner to collect all-region honors.
Kennedy led all Colgate runners at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship in Boston on Nov. 10, crossing the line in 25th place overall with a 6k time of 21:30. That is the highest finish for any Colgate runner in the history of the program and helped the Raiders earn a 12th-place team finish. Kennedy ran a 5:47 mile pace over the 6k-course and finished less than half of a second behind the 24th-place runner.
Colgate’s No. 2 runner for much of the season, Kennedy captured all-Patriot League first-team honors with a fourth-place showing at the conference championship meet. She ran a career-best 6k time of 21:28, a 38-second improvement from her previous best.
She and rookie champion
Stacey Marion (West Simsbury, Conn.) became just the second duo in Colgate history to earn spots on the all-league first team. Kennedy got progressively faster throughout the season and capped it off with a stellar performance at the regional championship meet. She finished in 25th place or higher in all but the prestigious Paul Short Invitational, where she took 69th of 317 runners.
The Raiders ranked 13th in the region heading into the meet and as a team took 12th of 36 teams. They defeated Quinnipiac and New Hampshire, who were ranked ahead of Colgate, for the first.
