Eleven players named to the 2005 all-Patriot League football team.

Senior linebacker Jared Nepa has been named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.

HAMILTON, N.Y. - For the third time in his 10-year tenure, Colgate head football coach Dick Biddle has been named Patriot League Coach of the Year. Biddle has guided the Raiders to an 8-3 record, a fifth Patriot League Championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs.

Senior linebacker Jared Nepa (Carbondale, PA) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman tailback Jordan Scott (Hyattsville, MD) was chosen as Patriot League Rookie of the Year as picked by a vote of the league coaches.

Nepa is Colgate’s leading tackler with 89 stops including a team-high 13 tackles for losses. He leads the Patriot League in interceptions with five, and has tied the school record for career interception returns for touchdowns with three. He also has been credited with one quarterback sack, four pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and two fumbles caused. Nepa is the third Colgate player to be named Defensive Player of the Year – joining Greg Manusky (1987) and Tem Lukabu (2002, 2003).

Scott is the fourth Colgate player to win the honor of Rookie of the Year joining Jim Tierney (1989), Ryan Vena (1996) and Ed Weiss (1997). He is the leading rusher in the Patriot League with 1,157 yards, despite not starting the first three games. En route he has broken the school and Patriot League’s freshman rushing record. Scott had seven games over 100 yards rushing and two games over 200 yards, including a freshman record of 257 in the regular season finale against Georgetown. He is the fifth Colgate running back to win the Patriot League rushing title.

Joining Nepa on the first-team all-Patriot League team is junior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, Fla.), senior cornerback Chris Williams (Blasdell, NY) and junior strong safety Geoff Bean (Oneonta, NY). Second team selections were Scott, senior wide receiver DeWayne Long (West Des Moines, IA), senior offensive tackle Jeremy Wurst (Milford, NJ), junior center Jake Sulovski (Hampton, NJ), senior defensive tackle Jeff Galletly (Franklin Lakes, NJ), senior defensive tackle Chris Petrone (Bethel Park, PA) and sophomore cornerback Cody Williams (Blasdell, NY).
