After joining the Colgate women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach in Aug. 2018, Liz Beville was announced as interim head coach on Jan. 25, 2019.
"Coach Beville has my full confidence and support, and she will fully serve as our head coach," Colgate Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Nicki Moore said. "She brings excellent experience to this role, and her work with the team this fall provides a solid foundation upon which to build."
Beville joins the Raiders program after spending the 2017-18 season at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo., where she led the women’s lacrosse program to a 12-4 record as an assistant coach. The Mavericks made an Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Semifinal appearance and had five All-RMAC selections. Beville brings a wealth of experience from Colorado Mesa where she managed team travel, fundraising, student-athlete recruitment and social media accounts in addition to her coaching responsibilities.
"I want to thank
Nicki Moore,
Mary Berdo,
Heather Young and the entire Colgate lacrosse family for giving me the opportunity to be part of such an amazing program," said Beville. "While I only arrived on campus a few months ago, I have quickly learned how special the Colgate and Hamilton community is. I'm honored to have the chance to lead and develop this team as Interim Head Coach and look forward to building on the excellent culture and foundations
Heather Young has set for the program."
Beville had returned to her alma mater when she served as an assistant coach at the State University of New York at Cortland from 2015-17. In addition to combining for a 35-6 record under her leadership, the Red Dragons made a Division III Final Four appearance in 2016, and earned nine All-SUNYAC selections.
Prior to her time at SUNY Cortland, Beville spent one season with Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., where she led the women’s lacrosse program to a 9-7 record as an assistant coach. The Mules earned a historical first post-season home game in the 2015 campaign, while Beville coached and developed the goalkeepers.
Continuing involvement with coaching at several levels of the sport, Beville has been the program director and coach of Orange Crush Club Lacrosse since 2014. With the Orange Crush, Beville is responsible for evaluating players, hiring coaching staffs, and creating practice plans. A successful program, Beville and Orange Crush have developed over 15 Division I commitments in her time with the organization.
As a student-athlete at SUNY Cortland, Beville served as team captain, was a Dean’s List student, and garnered an 84-7 record over her four years with the program. Beville and the Red Dragons made four Division III Final Four appearances and were four-time SUNYAC Champions.
“I am also happy to welcome Liz back to her upstate NY roots,” Coach Heather Young added.
A native of Jamesville, N.Y., Beville graduated from SUNY Cortland with a BSED in Physical Education in 2014 and earned her Masters in Sport Management in 2016. Beville has also partaken in the NCAA Women’s Coaching Academy and completed the courses with Class 43 in Nov. 2017. While attending the WCA, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, Beville focused on non-sport specific concepts that foster inclusion across the sports community and strategies that influence personal and team success. She has also served on the Division II All-American Committee and Awards Committee.
