Head coach Heather Young and the Colgate women’s lacrosse program announced the addition of Erica Geremia-Mathers as assistant coach in September 2018.

“I am pleased to round out my staff with the hiring of Erica," Young said. "She was a stand out student-athlete who has a great lacrosse background. She will be working with our goalies and on the offensive side of the ball. She is extremely knowledgeable with offensive concepts and I am excited for what she will bring to our team. We’re looking forward to welcoming her and her husband back to their upstate New York roots.”

Geremia-Mathers joins the program after spending two years as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee. In 2018, the Generals were ODAC Champions, made an NCAA tournament appearance, and finished ranked 13th nationally by a record of 16-5. For the first time in program history, Washington and Lee made a Final Four appearance in the 2017 campaign, completed the season ranked third nationally, and posted a school-record number of wins with a 19-2 marker.

“I am so excited to be joining the Raider family at Colgate University,” said Geremia-Mathers. “I would like to thank all the amazing coaches who have mentored me over the past few years, and would like to extend my appreciation to Heather Young, as this is a great honor and privilege to have this opportunity. I am also fortunate to be working alongside Liz Beville, who has been a great friend, teammate, and mentor to me.”

As a player, Geremia-Mathers was a four-time All-America honoree who ranks fourth in NCAA history in scoring with 490 points as a player in both Division II and Division III.  She began her collegiate career at SUNY Cortland, tallying SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-America honors in 2013, totaling 136 points on 62 goals and 74 assists.  She followed that with 124 points (54 G, 70 A) as a sophomore, repeating as a First Team All-America selection and garnering SUNYAC Player of the Year and USILA Attacker of the Year laurels.  After the season, she was one of 84 women chosen to try out for the U.S. National Team.

Geremia-Mathers transferred to Le Moyne for her final two seasons and was a Division II First Team All-American both years in helping lead the Dolphins to a Top 5 ranking each season. She was the USILA Division II Attacker of the Year in 2015, leading the team in scoring with 121 points on 67 goals and 54 assists. She was again the team’s scoring leader in 2016, finishing with 109 points on 59 goals and 50 assists.

Throughout her playing career, the attack specialist was active in coaching in the Syracuse area, including serving as the head coach of the Orange Crush Lacrosse Club since 2012-16 and coach of Lex Lax since 2017. She has also been involved with numerous individual training clinics over the past four years.

“I look forward to working with the student-athletes here at Colgate to help them achieve their goals on and off the field, and assisting in taking the Colgate women's lacrosse program to the next level,” added Geremia-Mathers. “I can't wait to get started!”

A native of Camillus, New York, Geremia-Mathers is a 2016 graduate of Le Moyne College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. She then went on to earn a Masters in Sport Management from Liberty University in 2018. Geremia-Mathers also participated in the NCAA Women’s Coaching Academy and completed the courses in 2017. While attending the WCA, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, Geremia-Mathers focused on non-sport specific concepts that foster inclusion across the sports community and strategies that influence personal and team success.
