Head coach Bobby Pennington announced the hiring of Sarah Summerfield in July 2014 as the new assistant coach for Colgate tennis.
 
"I am very excited to begin my position as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach," Summerfield said. "I look forward to helping Coach Pennington achieve his program goals of being at the top of the Patriot league.
 
"Working at Colgate is a great opportunity for me and I am thrilled to join the Colgate family."

Summerfield comes to Colgate after spending last season as the interim head women's coach at Division II Saint Leo in Florida. While there she helped the Lions achieve a program-high national ranking of No. 3 in the country and led the team to the finals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. She also coached the team to a semifinal appearance at the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament for the first time in program history.
 
Prior to her tenure at Saint Leo, Summerfield was the head tennis professional from 2011-13 at the Vicksburg Country Club in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
 
"I am very excited to bring Sarah on board and welcome her to the Colgate tennis family," Pennington said. "She had an outstanding career as a Division I player and a very successful season as a coach this past year, at the top of Division II school.
 
"I look forward to Sarah helping our program continuing to grow and compete at the top of the Patriot League."
 
Summerfield brings a wealth of knowledge to the Raider tennis programs from her time in the national spotlight as well.
 
Summerfield competed collegiately at Wyoming, where in 2010 she became the winningest player in program history for singles at the No. 1 position. In addition, she competed as a finalist at the Memphis Indoor Southern Open and being ranked 22nd in the USTA Top 500 national list.

Summerfield was a four-year tennis player and two-time team captain for the Cowgirls. She was also a two-time All-Mountain West Conference First Team selection. In addition to her work on the court, she was a team representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Summerfield graduated from Wyoming in 2011 with a bachelor's in science. She is also finishing up her master's degree from Saint Leo in sports business. The Chester, New Jersey, native is certified with the U.S. Professional Tennis Association as well.
