Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Matt Karweck announced the promotion of Justin Schneidman to his staff as an assistant coach.

Schneidman served as a volunteer assistant for the 2020-21 season, helping the Raiders advance to the Patriot League tournament semifinals for the first time since 2015.

"I am proud to announce the elevation of Justin as our next assistant coach and defensive coordinator for our program," Karweck said.

"Not only is he a great coach, but he is a great person who loves Colgate. Coach Schneidman fully embodies our values of Grit, Growth, and Gratitude, and has already created lasting and meaningful relationships with our players.

"As our volunteer last year, I had a chance to watch Justin go to work with our defense, and I knew immediately that he was going to do a great job. He brings great insight, a high-level of organization, an unrivaled work-ethic, and is elite in skill and team defensive development. We are blessed to have Justin on our staff, and we look forward to great things from our defense going forward."

Working with the defense, Schneidman helped Colgate turn a 7-4 second-half deficit into an 11-8 victory over Boston University in the 2020-21 semifinals. The Raiders conceded just one goal over the final quarter, a glimpse of Colgate's late postseason push.

"I am incredibly grateful to President Casey, Dr. Nicki Moore and Coach Karweck for the opportunity to continue working with this team. Colgate is a truly special place filled with amazing people. I am thrilled to continue building the future of Colgate Lacrosse."

Closing out the regular season, the Raiders battled No. 11 Army to a 13-11 decision in West Point. Colgate was playing its best lacrosse down the stretch and went toe-to-toe with No. 9 Lehigh in the Raiders' first semifinals appearance in six years.

Prior to his arrival in Hamilton, Schneidman had collegiate coaching stints at Fairfield (2017-19) and Manhattanville (2016-17). He also served as a coach for Primetime and Sweetlax Upstate Lacrosse Clubs (2010-2021).

Schneidman was a two-time First Team All-American at nearby Cortland State, where he won a national championship in 2009. He was also a three-year All-SUNYAC selection, 2011 North-South all-star game selection and garnered First Team All-ECAC honors in 2010 and 2011. Schneidman is the all-time caused turnover leader at Cortland State with 81.

Schneidman graduated cum laude from Western Connecticut State with a bachelor's degree in business administration in supervisory management in 2014.

Looking ahead, Karweck said, "We are blessed to have Justin on our staff, and we look forward to great things from our defense going forward."
