Colgate head coach Mike Murphy announced in August 2015 the addition of Jud Hall to his men’s lacrosse coaching staff.
Hall joined the squad as an assistant coach after spending four seasons at Ohio State. He served three years as a volunteer coach before being promoted in 2015 to director of player development.
Despite Hall’s promotion to director of player development, he retained responsibility for the Ohio State’s man-down defense and goalies. The Buckeyes under head coach Nick Myers compiled a 12-7 record last year and advanced to the NCAA tournament, where they posted a 16-11 win at No. 5 Duke before falling 15-13 to eventual national champion Denver in Denver.
Hall mentored three goalies to three All-League accolades.
Greg Dutton finished the 2012 season in the top seven nationally in both goals-against average and save percentage, and was 16th nationally in 2013. Scott Spencer in 2014 took over as the starter midway through the year after Dutton suffered a season-ending injury and was second in the ECAC in both GAA and save percentage. And in 2015, Tom Carey played his was to All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and USILA All-American Honorable Mention accolades.
Ohio State’s man-down defense ranked 11th in the NCAA in 2012 and Hall helped guide the Buckeye clearing game to a .918 percentage in 2014, ranking third in the NCAA.
Two NCAA Trips in Four Years
In Hall’s four seasons at Ohio State, the Buckeyes compiled a 39-26 (.600) record and made two NCAA tournament appearances.
Hall added managerial duties this past season, overseeing the team’s life skills program, community service efforts and all camps and clinics.
A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Hall is a 2011 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and was a team captain as both a junior and senior. An outstanding goalkeeper for the Bishops, Hall was a part of back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference championship squads in 2010 and 2011.
OWU advanced to the NCAA tournament all four years (2008-11) of Hall’s career.
He was a first team all-league selection in 2010 and an honorable mention choice in 2009. Hall earned his bachelor's degree from OWU in sociology and anthropology, and also completed a minor in history.
At Upper Arlington High School, Hall was a member of state championship teams in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Golden Bears won the 2007 Midwest title and were Midwest runner-up twice. He was a high school All-American in 2007.
