Colgate’s Matt Karweck announced the addition of John Crawley to his men’s lacrosse coaching staff in August 2018.
Crawley worked alongside Karweck at Notre Dame, helping the Fighting Irish win the 2018 ACC championship. Crawley worked primarily with the face-off unit and in developing players on the offensive side of the ball.
“John has an incredible offensive mind,” Karweck said. “His experiences at Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame and playing in the MLL have really shaped a unique ability to see the game in different ways.
“With the shot-clock era about to begin, John’s knowledge and awareness can really help us with strategy and execution. His real value as a coach is his profound ability to build and develop relationships with players. John will lead our offensive as well as manage our social media content and distribution.”
Crawley plays in both attack and midfield for the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse. In his first MLL game, Crawley earned League Player of the Week honors after scoring six goals and assisting on another.
"I was able to spend a lot of time with Coach Karweck in the past year, getting to know him and his family at Notre Dame." Crawley said. "I'm fortunate to have learned from him as a coach and as a man.
“I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to work with him toward building something special here at Colgate. His vision, combined with his contagious energy and passion, puts this program and these players in great hands."
NCAA All-Tournament Selection
Crawley was a two-time USILA All-America and 2017 USILA Academic All-American at Johns Hopkins. He helped the Blue Jays advance to the 2015 national semifinals and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after scoring four goals during championship weekend.
The Port Washington, New York, native was a two-time team captain at Johns Hopkins. He graduated in 2017 with a degree in economics.
