Jim Nagle

Jim Nagle sports a 86-64 record in his 10 seasons on the sidelines for the Colgate men's lacrosse team. He has an overall record of 151-103 in his 16 seasons as a head coach.

In 2011, Nagle led the team to its best league start in program history, matching its 5-0 record in 2009. The team finished the season with an 11-5 overall record, a Patriot League Championship game appearance, and a No. 12/13 ranking in the final national polls of the season. The highlight of the season was defeating NCAA runner-up Maryland in its final game of the season for the first time in program history, becoming the first Colgate team in history to beat an ACC Champion. With 11 wins in 2011, Nagle attained the most wins in program history with 86. The win against Navy on March 26, gave him his 81st win, surpassing Harvey Potter (1955-65) for first place. The team ranked as the most improved team in Division I lacrosse since the 2009 season according to Laxpower.com.

Colgate finished the 2009 season ranked in the top-20 of the USILA Coaches Poll, for a third straight season, with a 9-6 record. Nagle mentored five all-Patriot League players in 2009 including the Offensive Player of the Year, a first team all-American, and three North-South All-Stars, including the North-South All-Star Game MVP.
 
In 2008, Nagle led Colgate lacrosse to new heights as the Raiders captured their first Patriot League Championship and registered a program-record tying 11 wins, for the third straight season. The Raiders made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history after defeating Syracuse for the second straight season. Colgate finished the 2008 season ranked 10th in both the USILA Coaches and the Inside Lacrosse Media Polls.
Nagle mentored five all-Patriot League players in 2008 including the Offensive Player of the Year, two all-Americans and two North-South All-Stars.

In 2007, Nagle led the squad to the Patriot League Championship for the first time in school history and tied the school record in wins with 11. The Raiders closed out the 2007 season ranked 16th in the USILA Coaches Poll and featured the top man-up offense in Division I. Nagle coached six all-Patriot League players in 2007 including the Offensive and Defensive Player's of the Year, one honorable mention all-American and two North-South All-Stars.

In 2006, He was rewarded with his second Patriot League Coach of the Year award in three seasons. He also was voted the league's top coach in 2003. Colgate climbed into the national lacrosse scene in 2006, earning a ranking as high as 17th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and 18th in the USILA Coaches' Poll. Nagle mentored five all-Patriot League players in 2006, an honorable mention All-American, and a North-South Senior All-Star.
 
In his second year, Nagle was chosen as the Patriot League's Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to an 8-7 overall record, and a 4-2 mark in the Patriot League. Colgate's finish was the best since the 1997 squad went 8-7.
 
Inheriting a team that went 3-10 in 2001, Nagle’s coached the 2002 Colgate team to a 7-7 overall record and a 3-3 conference mark in his inaugural season. Nagle also saw two Raiders in the national rankings as Joe Parker ranked 26th in Division I in points per game (3.43) and Chris Hettler ranked 25th in save percentage (.577).
 
Prior to his coming to Hamilton, Nagle was the head coach at SUNY Oneonta and took a program that had suffered through several losing seasons and quickly turned the Red Dragons into a winning team. In his five seasons, Nagle guided the program to an overall record of 65-39, upset five nationally ranked teams and led Oneonta to a #11 national ranking.
 
In his final season with the Red Dragons, Nagle led the team to a 9-5 record and earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors.
 
In 2000, the Red Dragons won their first ECAC Division III Upstate New York title with a 10-7 mark. Nagle also coached second team All-American and North-South MVP Brian Dooley.
 
In 1999, Oneonta earned its first-ever NCAA Division III berth with a 10-4 record and a #11 national ranking. The Red Dragons were Empire League Champions and Nagle was named the Empire League Coach of the Year. He was also the recipient of the Francis “Babe” Kraus Award as the USILA National Coach of the Year.
 
In 1998, the Red Dragons posted a 13-2 record, the best record in school history, and were Empire League champions and ECAC finalists. Their regular season mark of 12-1 was the best record in the country and Nagle received his first Empire League Coach of the Year honor.
 
his first season, Oneonta finished 11-6 and earned the school’s first-ever berth in the ECAC Tournament. That year, they defeated #20 Springfield College, the first upset of a nationally ranked team in school history. Prior to Oneonta, Nagle was an assistant coach at The Stony Brook School on Long Island, where he saw his team win the Suffolk County Class “B” title.
 
Nagle began his coaching career as an assistant at Springfield College in 1992 where he saw the Pride win the 1993 ECAC championship and 1994 NCAA Division II championship. While at Springfield he earned a master’s of physical education.
Nagle is a 1992 graduate of Loyola College where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business. While there, he helped his alma mater earn four straight appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament including a berth in the 1990 title game.
 
He played scholastically at Ward Melville where he was part of a 24-0 squad that won the New York State championship in 1988.
 
Nagle and his wife Kelly reside in Hamilton with their daughters Jamie, Ryan, and Meghan.
