Craig Gibson is in his first season with the Colgate men’s lacrosse coaching staff. He joined the Raider program of August 2006.
Prior to joining the Raider coaching staff, Gibson was the first assistant at Western New England College. Gibson assisted in the development of team and in-game strategies and also shared recruiting and scouting responsibilities for the Golden Bears.
Working primarily with the offense, he mentored the 2006 Pilgrim League Player of the Year who led the league in points and goals. In addition to his lacrosse duties, the South Salem, N.Y. native worked in the Golden Bears’ athletic office, performing compliance checks for student-athletes’ academic requirements and many other daily duties.
Before moving into the coaching ranks in 2005, Gibson was a four-year starter at midfield for Springfield College. He helped the Pride to a top-25 ranking in each of his four years. He graduated as the all-time leading midfielder in goals (122), assists (66), and points (128). His 122 career tallies rank seventh overall on the Pride’s all-time goals list.
During his four seasons at Springfield, the Pride went 53-17, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2001, 2003, and 2004. He also helped guide Springfield to the ECAC Division III New England Championship in 2002. Gibson finished that season second on the team in scoring with a career-high 41 goals, 19 assists, and 60 points.
Gibson was a seven-time member of the Dean’s List at Springfield, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in movement and sport studies with a minor health in 2004. He completed his master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in athletic administration from Springfield this past spring.
