Andrew Watkins

Watkins enters his second season as an assistant coach after joining the coacing staff in August 2010. Last season he helped coach the Raiders to their best league start in program history, matching its 5-0 start in 2009. The team finished the season with an 11-5 overall record and was ranked No. 12/13 in the final national polls of the season.

"We are excited to have Andrew back with the program,” stated head coach Jim Nagle. “Andrew brought all of his talents, everyday as a student athlete. His consistent values will be a great example for the 2011 team. Andrew understands the commitment it takes to excel in the classroom at Colgate and on the athletic field. He will be a great mentor for our developing team."

Watkins was a four-year letterwinner for the Raiders and served as a two-time team captain during his junior and senior seasons.

Watkins started his final 31 games at close defense for the Raiders including 16 during the 2008 season to help lead Colgate to the Patriot League title. Watkins led all defensemen with 33 groundballs and was the leader of a defensive unit that allowed just 8.74 goals per game and just eight man-up goals all season.

"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with the high caliber student-athletes of Colgate University,” stated Watkins. “I would like to thank coach Nagle and Athletic Director Dave Roach for this wonderful opportunity. It is my honor to return to Colgate and coach at this fine institution. I look forward to helping lead Colgate lacrosse to even greater success on and off the field in the future."
