Peter Mayer joined the Colgate coaching staff in July of 2006. He will be working with the safeties this fall after serving as a defensive assistant his first season.
Mayer came to Colgate from Widener University, where he was offensive graduate assistant coaching the tight ends. He also had coaching responsibilities with the kickoff, kickoff returns and punt returns special team units.
During the 2004 season, he served as the defensive backfield coach at Hamilton College.
Mayer, 25 years old, was born November 28, 1981 in Hamilton, New York. He is a 2004 graduate of Ithaca College where he received his bachelor’s degree in History.
As a three-year letterwinner on the Bombers football team, Mayer earned second team all-Empire 8 Conference free safety honors in his senior campaign and was named the team’s Most Improved Back. He played on the 2001 and 2003 Ithaca teams that participated in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
He is a former all-New York State scholastic quarterback at Hamilton High School, where he graduated from in 2000.
