If you describe yourself as a high-energy, high-spirited and skilled dancer and/or cheerleader, then this is the place for you!
We are the University’s official spirit team! Pom team activities include fan engagement, performing cheers, pom routines, jazz, and hip-hop dance. The team supports Colgate football, women’s and men’s basketball home games. The team travels for postseason games. We are also involved in community engagements as representatives of Colgate University.

Audition Details
The Pom Team in-person audition for the 2025-26 school year will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Huntington 303. ALL students are welcome. If you are currently studying abroad please reach out to Coach Taylor tking@colgate.edu to submit a video audition.
In order to audition, YOU MUST COMPLETE the registration form by May 3 at 10 a.m.
Audition Agenda
- 10:00-10:10: Pom Team Welcome & Intros
- 10:10-10:30: Warm-up & Technique
- 10:30-11:00: Cheer & Pep
- 11:00-11:10: Break
- 11:10-12:00: Choreography & Pom
- 12:00-12:30: (Optional) Skills
There will be a mix and mingle from 9:30-9:45 a.m. to meet current members. We encourage all participants to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the audition so that numbers can be distributed. We will begin at 10 a.m. sharp. The optional skills section is for participants looking to demonstrate any specific skill set which may include tumbling, jumps, or tricks. Participants will have up to one minute to perform individually or with a group of others auditioning. There are mats available in the studio.
Who can join the team?
- All full-time students regardless of gender or identity
- Students with a 2.0 GPA and higher
- Students with a background in dance, cheer, or pom. All levels are welcome! If you have strengths in one area or another, still come to join us.
What are we looking for in the audition?
- Students with great performance quality who can show their personality and are exciting to watch
- Responsible students who will be dedicated to the pom team through the 10-15 hour weekly time commitment
- Students who are passionate about the pom team mission which is uplifting Colgate school spirit through fan engagement, cheering, dancing, and pom routines at athletic events
What to wear?
- Wear form-fitting attire that you feel comfortable and confident moving in
- Footwear is optional. Cheer sneakers, street sneakers, jazz shoes, or bare feet are welcome.
- No large jewelry
- Game day styled hair and makeup
When do we meet?
- Practice and games will total around 15 hours a week.
- During football season practices will be 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays and select Saturdays.
- During basketball season practices will be 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Throughout the school year, there will be optional workouts
- Football games consist of around six hours and are usually on Saturday afternoons
- Basketball games consist of around three hours. During conference play games are typically Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons
- There are some games that are outside of the normal school schedule. We will have early arrival during the later part of winter break (mid-January) to support basketball games. Finally, NCAA tournament will be hosted over spring break. All members should not make travel arrangements until more information is given.
