Colgate University Athletics

Boosters/Alumni/Fans

Colgate Athletics has established a tradition of success and achievement in every field, every arena throughout the years, and much of this success can be attributed to the athletes, coaches, and administrators who strive to ensure Colgate remains a well-recognized and well-respected athletics program. Still, this success could not be maintained without the sustained support of alumni, boosters and friends of the Raiders. The University is proud of the tradition that accompanies our athletics program, but is equally impressed by the integrity in which it operates, which cannot be accomplished without the effort of all members of the Colgate community to uphold the spirit of all NCAA rules regulating intercollegiate athletics.

The commitment to excellence by the entire Colgate University family is, and will remain, a priority. This commitment involves having reasonable knowledge of NCAA, Patriot League, and ECAC Hockey rules and working collaboratively with Athletics Department staff to ensure that actions in support of student-athletes do not jeopardize their future success. As a Colgate athletics fan, your loyalty and enthusiasm are unmatched and we are grateful for all you have done to make us the model for academic and athletic excellence. Our mission is not only to continue our winning ways, but also to win the right way! Go ‘Gate!

The NCAA considers you a “representative of athletics interest” (i.e. booster) if you:
  • Are, or have ever been, an individual or member of group that supports or promotes the Colgate athletics program;
  • Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics support group of one of Colgate's varsity programs;
  • Are assisting, or have been requested by the athletics department staff to assist, in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes; or
  • Are assisting, or have been requested by the athletics department staff to assist, in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families.
ONCE A BOOSTER, ALWAYS A BOOSTER

Check out the following guides for best practices as it relates to your relationship with Colgate Athletics: Fans & Boosters -or- Family & Friends of Colgate Student-Athlete

Violations that occur between BOOSTERS & CURRENT OR PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES - regardless of their intent - may jeopardize the ongoing eligibility of that individual at the University. And thus, always ask before you act, and do not hesitate to reach out to the Athletics Compliance Office with questions at any time.

Note on pre-existing relationships: In circumstances in which a pre-existing and established relationship exists between a booster and student-athlete, prospective student-athlete, and/or their families, those relationships may continue so long as they existed prior to the time the individual entered high school (i.e. became a PSA) and the relationship was established unrelated to their potential athletics recruitment and/or involvement at the University. Any benefits provided by the booster in these circumstances must be consistent  with the nature and level of those provided prior to the individual triggering PSA status and/or participation at the institution. As a best practice, we encourage boosters with known relationships with prospective or current student-athletes to submit a Declaration of Pre-Existing Relationship Form with the Athletics Compliance Office.
