Football Quotes (Cornell)

Coach Biddle:
On the offensive line:
“Well I think we played exceptional offense, I think the only time we stopped ourselves is when we fumbled the ball.  We’ve got a lot of guys back, they’re playing well and the quarterback is making plays.  I think we played very well today.  I don’t think we finished the end of the game, we put some guys in and gave them the chance to play and they fumbled the ball and put it on the ground, that’s a little disconcerting.  I thought we were outstanding on offense and I’m glad we were because our punter got hurt and we didn’t have anybody to punt.  That was a good part about the game, we didn’t have to punt.”

On defeating Cornell during Homecoming weekend:
“It’s great to be 5-0, when you play your big rival, it can’t get any better than that.  It was a good crowd, a beautiful day and we get to play on t.v. on Thursday night.  Things are going well right now for Colgate football.”

Uzi Idah, SS:
On the defensive line:
“We gave up a lot of plays this last week [against Fordham] and we tried to focus more on stopping the big play.  The team today, they do a lot of trick plays, I saw the double pump and go’s and the fakes.  So we just try to focus on that and tackling, just basic fundamentals.  We came out pretty strong, but we finished flat so we’ve got to go and work on that for next week because Princeton is a much better team.  We’ve got to keep it rolling.”

On defeating Cornell on Homecoming weekend:
“It feels good!  My cousin played for Cornell, he was on their side, but I’ve got to let him know that we won, rub it in his face a little bit.”

Greg Sullivan, QB:
On season high 200+ passing yards:
“It’s weird because we didn’t really throw any big ones to Pat [Simonds], Coach Hunt just told me that, so it means we can go the short game.  It’s very encouraging.  Like I say every week my offensive line did amazing, my receivers made plays for me.”

On having several scoring options, with both Eachus and McCord:
“We put them both in the backfield [Eachus & McCord], it’s really a hard thing for the defense to stop.  Both those guys are 200 yard rushers, they’re really, really good.  You can’t really load a defense to one side so once we put two guys back there the defense really evens up.  We can do a lot of things.”

On defeating Cornell:
“It’s really big to get a win on our rivals.  It’s good to get a win against anybody, but especially Cornell, they played really tough.  We’ve just got to keep it rolling we’ve got a lot of confidence right now.  We’ve got a big game coming up, so hopefully we’ll be 6-0.”

Nate Eachus, TB:
On coming back from injury and getting 3 TD’s:
“It was hard being injured, breaking a rib, but I was eager to get back and then scoring three touchdowns, I had a better game than I expected.”

On splitting carries with McCord:
“As long as we’re winning I don’t really care.  If one person gets forty carries, if we split 20-20, as long as we’re winning then I’m happy.”

On defeating Cornell on Homecoming weekend:
“It felt great, all the alumni back.  We had a great crowd.  Just to beat them as bad as we did, it was a good feeling.”

Jordan McCord, RB:
On his 2 TD’s:
“It was fun, we had Nate back.  The line did a good job, opened up a lot of holes.  They just made it easy, easy to run.”

On splitting carries with Eachus:

“It’s a lot easier.  I get a lot more rest, I don’t have to carry it forty times.”

On defeating Cornell:
“It felt good, my mom and grandmother were here, so they got to see me play.  It was just fun overall.”

Andy Heagle, PK:
On coming in for the injured kickers and getting first career points:
“This is what we practice for.  Every kick is really the same, so I just took it like I was in practice and everything worked out.  The first PAT was a little shaky, but I’ve never really kicked in a game before or practiced with that holder.  He just got back from a torn MCL, so he’s been out for a while.  It was really new to all of us.”

On coming in for the kicker on a 5-0 squad:
“It’s always bad to see that happen, but I’m glad I got my opportunity and hopefully we’ll just go up from here.”
