Freshman Year (2011-12): Outdoor Track: competed primarily in distance events ... ran a season-best time of 2:24.68 in the 800-meter run at the Louisiana Classics ... also recorded a season-best time of 4:53.92 in the 1,500-meter run at the Cornell Spring Invitational ... Indoor Track: competed in three events ... ran a personal-best time of 2:23.76 in the 800-meter run at the Valentine Invitational ... recorded a time of 3:07.00 in the 1,000-meter run Yale Giegengack Invitational ... also recorded a season-best time of 5:27.54 in the mile at the BU Multi-Team Meet.

High School: A four-year-varsity letter winner in track and field at Greenwich High School. She was senior captain for both Winter Track and Spring Track and the FCIAC Champ in 2009 and 2011, in both the 600m and 1000m. Kates holds 8 high school records (4x800m Indoor and Outdoor, 4x400m Indoor and Outdoor, SMR, DMR, 800m Indoor, and the 600m). She captured first -team-all conference honors, and first-team-all state honors, all four years. Kates was the Freshman of the Year in both indoor and outdoor in 2008. She earned MVP in 2009 and 2010 and the Coaches Award in 2011.

Personal: Kristina (Kiki) Kates was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. Daughter of Ken and Allyson Kates. She has one brother and one sister.
