Sophomore Year (2009-10): Outdoor Track: Competed in the 800m and 1500m run. Burns clocked her season-best time in the 800m of 2:20.92 at the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational and finished fourth at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships in the 1500m with a season-best time of 4:31.72.
Indoor Track: Competed in distance events for the Raiders. She finished with a season best time in the mile of 5:00.70 at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games. At the Southern Tier Collegiate Open, Burns posted a time of 10:28.70 in the 3,000m. She posted a personal best of 3.00.82 in the 1,000m run at the Colgate Class of '32 meet.
Freshman Year (2008-09): Outdoor Track: Competed in the distance events for the Raiders. Burns finished ninth with a season-best time of 4:46.26 in the 1,500m at the Patriot League Championship.
Indoor Track: Competed in the long distance races. Burns ran the Raider's top mile with a season-best time of 5:10.62 at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games. She clocked a season-best time of 10:27.70 in the 3,000 at the Syracuse Welcome Back Invite.
Before Colgate: A four-year letter winner in cross-country and track at Holy Names Academy. She helped lead Holy Names to the Metro League Cross Country Championship in 2004 and 2005 and the track team to the three titles from 2005-07. Burns earned all-Metro League cross country first team honors in 2007 and was named the Washington State Athlete of the Week in 2008. Burns garnered Seattle Post Intelligencer Fall Sports All-Star all four seasons. Ran a personal-best 5k of 18:45 as a senior. Clocked an 18:30 5k for her career personal-best. Served as team captain as a senior and captured the Sister Mary Tracy Excellence in Athletics Award in 2008. Burns was selected as Holy Names' Most Valuable Player in cross country as a freshman and senior and for track as a senior. Burns was voted as the track team's Most Inspirational Player in 2007 and earned three letters in swimming. Burns was a member of the National Honor Society.
