Golf Ties for Third at Lagowitz Memorial

HAMILTON – Led by top five finishes from Ronav Benak and Jayden Freedman, Colgate Golf secured a tie for third place at the 10th Alex Lagowitz Memorial on Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club. 

Eighty-three golfers across 14 teams competed at the annual season-opening tournament at the 3,125-yard, par-72 Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton. The field was rewarded with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s throughout most of the weekend. 


The Raiders' primary lineup carded a three-round total of 866 (+2) to tie Holy Cross for third in the team standings. Colgate's weekend was highlighted by top-five individual performances from Benak and Freedman, along with a blistering 7-under-par 281 in Saturday's second round. Seton Hall claimed the team title with an 11-under 853.

Colgate Top Performers
  • Ronav Benak (T-4th | -3): Benak anchored Colgate's primary unit with consecutive sub-70 rounds (69-69-75) to finish 3-under for the weekend. He went into Sunday's final round atop the leaderboard.
  • Jayden Freedman (T-4th | -3): Representing the Colgate B squad, Freedman matched Benak's 3-under finish with a consistent round-to-round performance (70-71-72).
  • Alex Hill (T-21st | +1): Highlighted by a second-round 67 – the lowest single round recorded by any Raider in the event – Hill finished just one stroke over par (75-67-75).
  • Jonathan Brubaker (T-21st | +1): In his first collegiate tournament, Brubaker paced Colgate B with an under-par opening round of 71 followed by back-to-back 73s to secure a top-25 position.
  • Joshua McGown (T-21st | 217, +1): McGown closed out the tournament on a high note, carding a final-round 71 (-1) to join Hill and Brubaker at 1-over (72-74-71).
