BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate Softball's first-year outfielder
Kayla Martin has been named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday, following a dominant performance in the Raiders' three-game series sweep of Bucknell.
Martin paced the Raiders' offense with a .625 batting average (5-for-8) over the weekend, adding two doubles, two home runs, three runs scored, and eight RBIs. She posted a 1.625 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage across the series, helping power an offense that continues to rewrite the program's single-season record book.
Martin recorded back-to-back two-hit performances in the final two games of the series and drove in multiple runs in all three contests. She capped the weekend by going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.
Her efforts were instrumental in securing the series sweep and lifting Colgate to a second-place finish in the Patriot League standings – its highest since 2011. The Raiders also posted their highest conference win total since the 2021 season, when they went 14-9 in league play.
This is Martin's third Patriot League Rookie of the Week, and she and Marina Taveras have combined for seven of the league's 13 weekly first-year nods. Martin is Colgate's second Player of the Week honoree, joining teammate and three-time selection Nora Megenity.
