HAMILTON – The Raiders picked up their third consecutive Patriot League victory, led by senior captain
Hunter Drouin, who tallied his 100th career goal to defeat the Lafayette Leopards, 11-8, at Andy Kerr Stadium.
Drouin secured his 100th career goal in the fourth quarter to equalize the score and give the Raiders the momentum they needed to come out on top. The Derry, N.H. native is the 11th athlete in program history to reach this accomplishment, not only did he score a pair of goals, but tacked on three assists to accumulate five points in the game.
Andrew Lehrman was a defensive staple in the net for the Raiders, making 15 saves to total a 0.652 save percentage against Lafayette. This was the ninth time this season he has made ten or more saves in a game.
Colgate was all over the field picking up loose ground balls and collecting more than the Pards. There were 14 different Raiders who picked up a ground ball, but the team was led by John Carrabine who picked up six and had two caused turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Andy Croddick opened up scoring for the Raiders with 13:19 on the clock. Lafayette responded with a goal at 11:38 to tie up the score. Freddy Fowler set up Andrew Kiefer to fire one in and put Colgate back in front at 7:57.
Quinn Spillett found the back of the net at 4:45, assisted by Drouin. The rest of the quarter would prove to be a back-and-forth defensive game as no teams scored, ending in favor of the Raiders at 11-8.
At the start of the second quarter, Fowler continued to keep his eyes on scoring opportunities, and found Drouin who then scored at 13:43. In the next four minutes of the game, both teams had multiple shots on goal, but the Leopards managed to knock two in at 9:17 and 8:29. Andrew Lehrman stopped scoring efforts with three crucial saves to end the half with Colgate still in the lead, 4-3.
At the start of the third quarter, Lafayette leveled out scoring with a goal at 13:23, and then caused a lead change in their favor with a second goal at 10:42. Patty Eldredge halted the Leopards momentum by setting up Casey Quinson for a goal to set the score to 5-5.
Thomas Lala picked up a ground ball and sent it over to Fowler, who then put it in the bottom right corner of the net to regain control of the game. Charlie Lohman tacked on an unassisted goal with one minute remaining in the second quarter.
The third quarter ended with a score of 5-7, and left the Leopards trailing by two.
Colgate began to trail in the fourth quarter as Lafayette scored three unanswered goals, setting the score to 8-7 in their favor. Drouin ended their run at 9:01 with an equalizer that not only set a fire under Colgate's offense for the rest of the game, but helped him reach a career milestone of 100 goals.
Ryan Favaro, Emmet Crotty, and Quinson all helped extend the Raiders' lead with each of their own goals.
With 1:21 left in the game, Fischer Burke managed to hold the ball in place during the faceoff to cut the time in half, leaving the Leopards with little time to comeback, and leading to the game ending with an 11-8 victory for Colgate.
