Softball Drops Doubleheader at Syracuse

Raiders fall to Orange, 1-0 and 6-0, in non-league action

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Colgate Softball came up short in its doubleheader at Syracuse, dropping both ends of the doubleheader 1-0 and 6-0 Wednesday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium.

COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS

"I am really proud of Kelcie. She has been putting in the work and the results were there. One or two hits could have changed the day for us. We are looking forward to much needed rest and reset to finish out strong."

Game 1 | Syracuse 1, Colgate 0

Kelcie McGraw tossed a complete-game four-hitter and conceded only one earned run with five strikeouts but it wasn't enough to overcome her counterpart, Madison Knight, who tossed a five-hit shutout to lead Syracuse to a 1-0 victory.

Lily Haluska went 2-for-3 to lead the Raider offense, while Nora Megenity, Marina Taveras, and Tealla Rivera each had one knock. Syracuse's lone run came in the bottom of the first when Jadyn Burney walked and scored on a double-play groundout by Knight.

Colgate's best chance came in the fourth after Taveras and Haluska opened with back-to-back singles. Taveras later advanced to third on an error, but Colgate couldn't cash in. Knight pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to preserve the 1-0 final score.

Game 2 | Syracuse 6, Colgate 0

Alexa Acker kept Syracuse off the board until a four-run bottom of the fourth in Game 2. Kendall Gaunt had the big blow in the inning, a three-run blast that gave the home team a 4-0 lead following a solo homer by Knight.

Maya Servedio took the circle and held the Orange in check until a two-run double by Rose Cano stretched Syracuse's lead to 6-0 through six innings.

Taveras and Kayla Martin were stranded after posting a pair of knocks in the seventh to complete the 6-0 decision.
