WORCESTER, Mass. – Colgate Softball scored eight runs over the last two innings to beat Holy Cross 8-1 in the series opener Saturday afternoon at Freshman Field.
Analisa Raffaelli and Lily Haluska paced the offense with two hits apiece as Colgate racked up 10 hits on the day. Mia Cascio and Tealla Rivera each drove in two runs to back a complete-game gem from Maya Servedio, who improved to 3-0 in the circle.
COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS
"Maya was unbelievable today. She stuck with our game plan and kept Holy Cross off the bases. She gave our offense enough time to adjust and put together two big innings. I'm excited to get back to work for two more games tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Servedio scattered four hits and one unearned run while striking out six to earn her third win of the season. The only run she gave up came on a defensive miscue in the bottom of the first, which gave the home team a 1-0 lead that stood for most of the afternoon.
Colgate's offense was held in check until a rally in the sixth. Raffaelli led off with a single and stole second before scoring on an RBI single up the middle by Haluska. Kayla Martin later singled home Sydney Berg to give the Raiders their first lead of the day, 2-1.
The Raiders exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh – sparked by a two-run double by Cascio. Marina Taveras and Izzy Ervin-Agudelo each drove in a run before Rivera capped the scoring with a two-run single up the middle extending the lead to 8-1.
Servedio completed her gem with a 1-2-3 seventh and fittingly secured the final out with a popup in the circle to preserve the series-opening victory, 8-1.
