PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Colgate Softball racked up 17 hits to beat Maryland Eastern Shore 11-2 in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader after dropping the first game, 3-0.
Lily Haluska and Kayla Martin each posted four hits to lead the Raiders offensively. Haluska's day included a 3-for-3 showing with three RBIs and three runs scored in the Game 2 victory. Izzy Ervin-Agudelo and Mia Cascio registered three hits apiece in the nightcap.
Game 1 | Maryland Eastern Shore 3, Colgate 0
Skylar Skinner scored the only run UMES needed in the opener with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. Jada Lacey later scored from third on a double steal, before Makalah Clark's RBI double in the fourth stretched the home team's lead to 3-0.
Colgate's offense was limited to four hits, led by Martin, who went 2-for-2 with a walk. The Raiders could not scratch a run across, ultimately dropping the opener 3-0.
Haluska and Tealla Rivera each recorded one hit in addition to Martin's two knocks. Alexa Acker tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Maya Servedio struck out four batters over 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Game 2 | Colgate 11, Maryland Eastern Shore 2 (6)
Colgate's bats came alive early in the nightcap, exploding for seven runs on eight hits in the top of the first. Haluska opened the scoring with a two-run single up the middle, followed by back-to-back RBI knocks from Rivera and Martin that built a 7-0 advantage.
Haluska added an RBI triple that ricocheted off the top of the wall in center field, followed by an RBI single from Cascio to establish Colgate's lead to 8-0 in the fourth. UMES extended the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the margin to 8-2.
Ervin-Agudelo highlighted her 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI single down the right field line in the top of the sixth. She stretched Colgate's lead to 10-2 after Cascio scored Marina Taveras on a fielder's choice.
Kelcie McGraw secured the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs while scattering four hits with six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Servedio pitched for the second straight game and did not allow a hit while striking out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
