Raiders Split Weekend Matches

Women’s Tennis Falls to Army but Takes Down Mercyhurst

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Colgate women's tennis team fell to Army on Saturday 4-0, but bounced back on Sunday to defeat Mercyhurst 6-1. 

ARMY 4 - COLGATE 0
The Raiders fell to Army on Saturday by a score of 4-0. The Black Knights started off strong in doubles, taking courts two and three 6-4, and 6-2, respectively. Senior captain Amelia Galin and junior Sophia Montero fell 7-6(2). 

Army continued their strong play in singles, winning on courts two, three, and four in straight sets to clinch the match. Galin was down 5-7, 3-4 at line one when play was called on court one. Junior Carina Cristobal was in a battle in the second, 1-6, 5-5 when the match was clinched.

COLGATE 6 - MERCYHURST 1
Colgate bounced back quickly from their loss Saturday, defeating the Lakers 6-1. The squad hopped out to an early lead in the doubles point, as sophomore Anya Kunar and first-year Anson Silverfield won 6-0 at line three. Galin and Montero clinched the point with a 6-3 win at line one. 

The Raiders continued their strong play in singles, winning five out of six courts. Cristobal added onto the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 lead at line six, followed shortly by Kunar and sophomore Rebecca Hess who each won in straight sets to clinch the matchup for the Raiders. 

Senior captain Sasha Herman added onto the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at line five. Galin fell at line one for the Lakers to take a point back, but Montero added one final match for the Raiders in three sets, winning 2-6, 7-6(8), 10-6. 

The Raiders return to Drumlins on Friday, where they will take on Le Moyne at 6 p.m.
