BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate University softball first-year infielder
Marina Taveras has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week in the opening weekend of the season, as announced today by the Patriot League office.
Taveras had a big week in Jacksonville, slashing .357 (5-for-14) including a 1.295 OPS with two homers, four runs scored, and four RBIs in five games for the Raiders, who won two games at the River City Leadoff tournament.
In her first collegiate at-bat, Taveras hammered a solo home run as part of a three-homer inning that fueled Colgate's 8-6 win over North Dakota State on Friday. The Fort Worth, Texas, native scored twice, and drew a walk.
During Friday's nightcap against Jacksonville, Taveras provided Colgate's scoring with a two-run blast to left field – her second round-tripper of the day.
Taveras recorded at least one hit in four of Colgate's first five games. She tallied three extra base hits and was perfect in the field with 10 putouts and seven assists at second base.
