JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nora Megenity's walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth lifted Colgate to a 3-2 win over UMass in the River City Leadoff finale Sunday morning at the UNF Softball Complex.
Mia Cascio opened the inning on second and moved to third on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Alexa Acker. Megenity followed by hitting a hard ground ball to short, beating the throw to first as Cascio crossed the plate with the game-winning run.
COACH LAMISON-MYERS' COMMENTS
"I am really happy with the way Kelcie came out today. After a slow start she came out today ready to go. She kept us in the game allowing our offense to battle and ultimately come through. Alexa was such a bright spot this weekend, throwing well every opportunity she had. We learned a lot this weekend and are excited to get back home, make some adjustments, and head to Texas."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Megenity paced the offense with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Analisa Raffaelli accounted for Colgate's other two runs, blasting her first home run of the season—a two-run shot to dead center—in the bottom of the fifth to break a scoreless tie.
UMass answered in the sixth, using a pair of singles, a passed ball, and Riley Kairer's two-run double to knot the score at 2-2. Colgate's defense held firm the rest of the way, pushing the game into extra innings.
Kelcie McGraw went the distance for the Raiders, tossing a complete eight innings while allowing just four hits. She struck out four, walked one, and threw 109 pitches—77 for strikes—surrendering two runs (one earned) to earn the win.
