Volleyball Takes Bump From Bucknell, 3-2

Reese Boasts Career-High 20 Kills

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Morgan Reese paved the way offensively for the Raiders, registering a career-high 20 kills, but Bucknell pushed past Colgate, winning in five sets at Davis Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Colgate took the first set, 25-20, as Bucknell evened the match in the second set, winning 25-17. The Raiders edged a 25-22 set three victory as the Bison won out in set four (25-23) and five (15-11), to top Colgate 3-2.

"This is a very tough league roadstand with 5 straight road matches. I really saw some growth in how we approached the match, but unfortunately we didn't get the result we wanted. There's a lot of volleyball left so we will get back to work on Monday."

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • Colgate started the match with all the offensive momentum on its side, opening a 10-4 lead that included a 6-0 run by the Raiders. Ava Schabes dished out a pair of service aces.
  • Bucknell chipped away at the deficit to get within three, 12-9, but kills from Stella Labrecque and Reese, along with a Raider block, helped extend Colgate's lead to 15-9.
  • The Bison got within two, 19-17, but the Raiders' late surge, including Reese's final kill, solidified the first set for Colgate, 25-20.
  • Bucknell's offensive outbreak gave the Bison its largest lead in set two, 13-4.
  • Kills from Labrecque, Julia Headley and Charlotte Goldfeder helped keep Colgate in contention, but the Bison expanded its lead to 20-9.
  • A 6-1 Raider rally featuring two Raider blocks and three kills kept Colgate in the second set, 21-15.
  • Colgate gave chase, but the gap was too wide to close as Bucknell took the second set, 25-17.
  • Both teams battled in the third set as Hannah Langton's service ace helped tie the score at 4-4.
  • The Raiders took their first lead of the set, 11-10, after three kills and a block assist from Labrecque and Reese.
  • The Bison halted the Raiders' run momentarily, but four kills, including a pair from Tiana Owens, and a Reese service ace gave Colgate a 16-11 lead.
  • Bucknell was on Colgate's heels, but the Raiders won pairs of points late in the set to take the third set, 25-22, and go up 2-1 in the match.
  • Colgate fed off its energy going into the fourth set, taking a 9-5 lead with kills from Owens, Reese and Aubrey Anders.
  • Both teams battled back and forth as Colgate held a four-point lead late in the set, 22-18.
  • The Bison came from behind, earning seven points to Colgate's one, to take the fourth set, 25-23, and force a fifth and final set.
  • Bucknell fed off its fourth-set energy, pushing to an early 8-2 lead.
  • Reese's service helped Colgate pull within one, trailing 9-8.
  • Back-to-back kills from Owens leveled the score at 10-10.
  • The Bison controlled the remainder of the set, capitalizing on two Raider errors and three kills to win 15-11 and take the match, 3-2.
NOTES
  • Reese posted 20 kills, logging a career-high alongside a .472 hitting percentage.
  • Goldfeder matched a career high with 10 kills, marking the second time she has reached double-digit kills.
  • Owens totaled a pair of service aces. She has recorded at least one ace in five consecutive matches.
  • Colgate is 2-3 in five-set matches, beating Morehead State and Northeastern.
