HAMILTON - Simon Labelle's goal wasn't enough for the Raiders to erase a 3-0 deficit, as Colgate fell 3-1 against Harvard on Friday night at the Class of 1965 Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams traded shots in the opening minutes of Friday's matchup, but it was Harvard who built more pressure early, with Colgate's Andrew Takacs forced to make several saves. Despite chances on both ends, neither team was able to open the scoring as the period passed the halfway mark.
The defensive stalemate continued as the opening period ticked down, as the game remained scoreless despite a huge chance for Tyson Doucette at close range. However, it was Harvard who drew first blood. The Crimson took a 1-0 lead at 16:26 when Donato Bracco, assisted by Mick Thompson and Philip Tresca, netted a power play goal.Â
Harvard continued to put pressure on the Raiders, but several outstanding saves by Takacs kept the Colgate deficit at one as the teams headed to the locker room.
The second period began with more Harvard pressure, and the Crimson scored again at 1:53, when Thompson, assisted by Casey Severo, made it 2-0. Harvard refused to let up, making it 3-0 at 7:15 when Ben MacDonald scored from an assist from Drake Murray.Â
From there, Harvard maintained the upper hand as they looked to put the game out of reach, but the Raiders refused to give in, with the score remaining 3-0 at the intermission.
Searching for a comeback, the Raiders started the final period with some attacking pressure, but were unable to cash in as Harvard looked to complete a shutout. Colgate finally got on the board at 14:29 when Simon Labelle scored off of assists from Isaiah Norlin and Michael Neumeier to make the score 3-1.
The game would end 3-1, with the Raiders unable to complete a comeback.
