Raiders return from Boston with numerous top performances

BOSTON - The Colgate men's and women's track and field teams sent a contingent of athletes to compete in the Suffolk Ice Breaker. Numerous Raiders posted strong performances.

COACH FRANCE'S COMMENTS
"Our meets at Cornell and Suffolk were a great snapshot of the promise this group has early in the season. Competing in preseason meets, we saw strong energy, competitive focus, and a lot of progress across the board, highlighted by Samuel Epstein breaking the school record in the pole vault and Joel Douzanis earning a win with a personal best in the shot put. We also had personal records in a wide range of events, which speaks to the work our athletes have put in and the foundation we're building as we move deeper into the season."

WOMEN

Colgate was powered by standout performances by its sprinters. Clare Gillis finished second in the invitational section of the 200 meter dash, running a 25.13. The senior also qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash, where she finished third with a time of 7.85. Sara Tibibian also finished in the top-ten of the 200 meter invite, posting a time of 25.97 in her season debut.

Chloe Schiller's time of 2:23.33 in the 800 meter run was good for a top-ten finish and a personal record.

The Raiders also found success in field events. Melinda Haagensen rose to a third place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.75 meters. Kiran George placed fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.60 meters.

MEN

The men's team took home a number of podium finishes, headlined by Samuel Epstein's school record in the pole vault. He soared to a first place finish, clearing a height of 4.75 meters.

Joshua Meyers and Henry Gaylord finished first and second in the 800 meter run, respectively. Meyers' 1:58.04 just edged out Gaylord's 1:58.14. Both times were collegiate-bests.

The Raiders also claimed four of the top ten spots in the 3,000 meter run. Thomas Rivier finished second with a time of 8:38.74. Nicholas Larson (4th; 8:39.67), Dylan DeCiccio (5th, 8:39.73) and Roman Steis (9th, 8:44.80) also finished in the top-ten. All four of them ran career-best times.

Joel Douzanis' throw of 14.17 meters was good enough for a second-place finish in the shot put.

Marcus Chu finished sixth in the 400 meter invite with a career-best time of 50.21, while first-year standout Samuel Heaven ran a 50.63 to finish fifth in the open section. Jeffery Groth finished seventh in the 200 meter invite, posting a time of 22.22.
