Van Kempen earns first Patriot League honor

Van Kempen made seven saves and faced 24 shots against Cornell

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Claire van Kempen, a senior goalkeeper for the Field Hockey team, has been named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance. This marks her first time receiving this award this season.

During the week, Colgate had one match against Cornell. Van Kempen faced 24 shots and nine penalty corners from the Big Red, all while making seven crucial saves. Two saves came in the first three quarters and one in the fourth. She boasted a .778 save percentage and in the Patriot League individual rankings, Van Kempen sits in second place in two categories, saves with 20 and saves per game averaging 6.67.  

The team's record for the week was 0-1, but Van Kempen's individual efforts were recognized with this prestigious honor.

Anna Lochhead and Ahria Dhillon earned honorable mentions for their performances against Cornell. Lochhead scored the sole goal for the Raiders to give them a 1–0 lead in the third quarter. The assist came from Dhillon. Both Raiders notched their first points of the season. 

Colgate will host two matches this weekend, first against Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
