Women's Basketball Earns Historic Win

McMahon nets 1,000th career point

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Raiders earned their program record 22nd win of the season on Saturday.

Anne Bair scored a game-high 22 points, Morgan McMahon logged her 1,000th point, and Taylor Golembiewski finished one rebound shy of a double-double as Colgate cruised to an 83-64 win.

COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS

"We just wanted to be more like us after the Holy Cross game. We had a direct, growth filled film session of what it takes to win at a very high level. While we gave ourselves an opportunity to win against Holy Cross we didn't do enough, we didn't earn the win. So that was the focus after that game.

"We turned the page and it was more about being present. Whatever opportunity we get we have to make the most out of it and I thought we did that today. Not a perfect game by any means, but it was excellent in the way we stayed together and played with toughness. It was excellent in the way we played for each other and the way our seniors stepped up with their voice first and then led by example.

"Couldn't be prouder of all of them for doing what it takes for us to win. Winning is hard, especially on the road."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, Taylor Golembiewski and Morgan McMahon combined for seven straight including a corner triple from McMahon to tie the game at seven apiece.
  • Each team traded buckets throughout the first quarter but McMahon hit a corner three at the end of the first quarter to help give the Raiders a 17-14 lead.
  • Sophia Diehl drained a trey to spark a 7-2 run to start the second quarter to push the Colgate advantage to 27-18.
  • Anne Bair and Lara Cook combined for eight points to end the first half on an 8-3 run and help the Raiders take a 39-27 lead after 20 minutes.
  • American closed the gap to within nine points at the under five minute media timeout of the third frame.
  • The Eagles continued to apply pressure and used a 11-2 run to cut the Raiders lead to just 53-49 with a minute left in the third.
  • McMahon and Golembiewski each made two from the charity stripe to give Colgate a 57-49 lead headed to the final quarter.
  • The Raiders responded with a 11-2 run of their own sparked by a McMahon layup through contact to get the old-fashioned 3-point play.
  • After the Eagles cut the Colgate lead to 10, Amarah Streiff, Anne Bair, and Sophia Diehl hit three straight from downtown and allowed the Raiders to cruise to their historic win.
GAME NOTES
  • Colgate logged its 22nd win of the season and 12th Patriot League win of the season which are both program records.
