Meabon’s Double-Double Prevails Raiders to Victory

Colgate had nine different scorers in tonight’s win



HAMILTON —
Colgate defeated University of New Hampshire, 89–79, at Cotterell Court. Head coach Shannon Bush continues to make history with the program, as she is the first women's basketball coach to win her first three games at Colgate. 


Ella Meabon nearly rewrote history for the Raiders, as she was three points shy of the single-game record (38). The junior went 13-for-17 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line to score 35 points for Colgate. Her 35 points match the most ever scored in Cotterell Court History and ranks second-best single-scoring performance. 

The Raiders led from the start, building a lead of as many as 14 points and extending their largest advantage of 22 in the final quarter. Colgate's bench contributed 29 points, and the team scored 40 points in the paint. New Hampshire tried to narrow the gap, but the Raiders' 11 offensive rebounds and 16 fast-break points secured the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate undoubtedly assumed control early in the game. Ella Meabon was flawless, shooting 3–3 from the floor and 2–2 from the foul line to give the Raiders an 8–2 advantage. Amarah Strieff nailed a three-pointer from beyond the arc, while Meabon and Christina Migette hit mid-range jumpers to give Colgate a double digit lead, 15–2. Despite New Hampshire's efforts, including a late tip-in by, Colgate maintained control and ended the quarter leading 22–13.

The Raiders and Wildcats traded points as Midgette and Meadbon added six more to the team's running total, 28–21. Although New Hampshire briefly narrowed the gap, Colgate's consistent scoring from the paint and free-throw line, including Kennedy Parrott's late free throws, ensured a strong finish. The quarter ended with Colgate leading 42–35.

Colgate surged ahead in the third quarter with a strong offensive showing, highlighted by a pair of back-to-back three-pointers from Streiff and Abbey Ferguson, both assisted by Laila Hankerson. This offensive burst helped Colgate extend its lead to 50–39, solidifying control over New Hampshire. Meabon contributed a defensive rebound and a tip-in, while Tatiana Matthews added crucial baskets in the paint. Colgate finished the quarter leading 70–56, as Ella Mahaffey drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer.

Streiff extended the lead with a quick three-pointer, assisted by Meabon, contributing to a crucial scoring run. Colgate maintained control throughout, responding to New Hampshire's efforts with consistent scoring. Despite New Hampshire's attempts to narrow the deficit, Colgate's efficient shooting and key defensive rebounds held the Wildcats at bay. Colgate finished on top 89–79, beginning the season as undefeated.

UP NEXT
Colgate is now 3–0 overall, maintaining an undefeated start to its season. The Raiders have a week off before facing the Big Red from Cornell next Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
