Thirteen Colgate Football Notes at Cornell

Colgate-Cornell head-to-head series even at 51-51-3

  • CNY Rivals | Colgate and Cornell meet for the 106th time Saturday afternoon. The series, which began in 1896, is tied 51-51-3. The Raiders are 38-39-3 all-time against Cornell on the road, most recently winning 35-25 in Ithaca two years ago. Colgate has won each of the last two meetings, scoring 35 points or more in both victories.

  • Third Time’s A Charm | With the all-time series tied at 51-51-3, Colgate has a chance to lead the series for the first time in program history. The two teams have been tied twice, in 2021 (49-49-3) and in 1896 (0-0), and Cornell came out victorious in both instances. This is Colgate’s third chance to lead the series in 129 years.

  • Previous Colgate-Cornell Meeting | Colgate claimed its first victory of the season with a 41-24 win over Cornell last year (9/21/24) at Andy Kerr Stadium. The 17-point triumph served as the largest margin of victory over the Big Red since 2018. The Raiders rushed for a season-high 270 rushing yards and four scores on the ground.

  • Offense in Stride | Colgate’s offense is averaging 460 yards of total offense, which would be its highest mark since the 2012 team set a program record that still stands today averaging 480 yards of total offense per game. The Raiders have eclipsed 500 yards of offense twice, most recently last time out against Fordham (77 plays for 543).

  • Finding the End Zone | Colgate found the end zone six times against Fordham, scoring a season-high 44 points en route to a 44-21 victory over the Rams last time out. Colgate’s 44 points were its most since racking up 41 in last year’s 41-24 win over Cornell.

  • First of Many for Fitz | Curt Fitzpatrick, the 31st head coach in Colgate Football history, earned his first win at the helm of the Raiders with Colgate’s 44-21 victory over Fordham on Homecoming Weekend. His career coaching record improved to 81-46.

  • Receivers Hit Century Mark | For the second straight game, Colgate had two receivers go for more than 100 yards with Treyvhon Saunders (126) and Winston Moore (126) both eclipsing the mark against Fordham. Reed Swanson (110) and Saunders (105) hit the century mark against Syracuse.

  • Saunders Makes History | Senior wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders recently surpassed Luke Graham ’05 for the most receptions in program history. The Columbus, Ohio, native stands alone as the record holder with 223 catches and counting. He has had at least 10 catches in three of the first four games to start the 2025 campaign.

  • Treyvhon at the Top | Treyvhon Saunders leads the FCS in receiving yards (591), receiving yards per game (147.8), receptions (43), and receptions per game (13.7). Saunders has eclipsed 100 receiving yards in each game thus far this season, including a career-best 223 in the opener against Monmouth (8/29).

  • Cole with the Carries | Sophomore running back Cole Fulton, who entered the season with one career carry, has emerged as the team’s leading running back in each of the last two games. Against Fordham last time out, Fulton carried 17 times for a career-high 105 yards – making his first time eclipsing 100 yards in a Colgate uniform.

  • D-Line Makes a Difference | Colgate’s defense was on full display against Fordham, holding the Rams scoreless in the second half of its 44-21 victory. Senior Brock Winsett and sophomore Paul-Marie Dogui registered two sacks each in the second half, giving the Raiders a season-high four sacks to lead the defense up front.

  • Wynning Plays | Tymir Wynn’s two interceptions against Monmouth made it three consecutive seasons that a Colgate defensive back has recorded a multi-interception game. Wynn led the team with three interceptions in 2024 – and he had the multi-pick game last year against Georgetown.

  • Lucky Number 13 | Colgate considers 13 to be a lucky number. The University celebrates Colgate Day every Friday the 13th. In 1817, 13 men met in the frontier settlement of Hamilton, N.Y., to found the Baptist Education Society of New York. They are said to have backed up their experiment in education with 13 dollars and 13 prayers, which is why 13 is considered a lucky number at Colgate.

  • With a win the Raiders would…
    • …lead the series against Cornell for the first time in program history
    • …record three straight wins over Cornell for the first time since 2017-2019
    • …pick up their first road victory of the season
    • …have back-to-back wins for the first time since November 2023
    • …register their first road win since Nov. 4, 2023, at Lafayette (37-34 OT)
    • …even their record against Cornell on the road to 39-39-3
