COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"We let the game happen to us tonight and that is no recipe for success. We will regroup and come back a lot better for game two."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Offensively, Colgate generated multiple early scoring opportunities, with shots from
Jacob Napier, Simone Dadiè, and
Easton Wainwright testing Boston U.'s goaltender. Despite the pressure, attempts by Rexine and
Simon Labelle came close, with Labelle's shot hitting the pipe late in the period.
The period concluded with the Terriers taking the lead at 19:07 through a goal by Cole Hutson, assisted by Kamil Bednarik and Conrad Fondrk. The score stood at 1-0 in favor of the Terriers as the period ended.
Despite early pressure from Boston U, Dyck made several key saves to keep the score unchanged. Midway through the period, Boston U extended their lead with two successive goals, including a power-play conversion by Cole Eiserman, pushing the Raiders to a 4-0 deficit.
The Raiders responded with Doucette scoring at even strength, assisted by Fernandez and Labelle, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Colgate maintained offensive pressure but was unable to capitalize on a late-period power play opportunity. The frame concluded with Colgate trailing 4-1.
Despite a strong defensive effort that included blocked shots by
Brett Merner and
Michael Neumeier, Boston U capitalized on a power-play opportunity, with Eiserman scoring at 11:09 to extend their lead.
The Raiders responded with a power-play goal of their own when Norlin found the back of the net at 4:16, assisted by Neumeier and Brandt, cutting the deficit to 5-2. However, a late empty-net goal from the Terriers' Jonathan Morello dashed Colgate's hopes of a comeback, closing the period with a 6-2 score in favor of Boston U.
