Raiders Sweep Sharks

Andrew Takacs makes 29 saves in 3-1 victory

HAMILTON — A 29-save performance from Andrew Takacs helped Colgate secure a 3-1 win and a sweep of LIU Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Michael Neumeier gave the Raiders a 1-0 advantage. Ryan Spinale picked up the puck behind the net and passed it to Simone Dadiè, who hit it to Neumeier. The first year skated across the ice before letting one rip from above the left faceoff circle.
  • Ben Raymond made it 2-0 Colgate a minute and a half into the third. Alex DiPaolo passed ahead to Max Nagel, who was in on goal but got denied by the goalie. The puck bounced to Raymond, who buried it into an open goal.
  • Niko Rexine sealed the deal, scoring an empty-net goal with just under three minutes left in the third.
  • The Sharks spoiled the shutout effort when J.R. Perdion found the back of the goal with 58 seconds remaining.
  • Takacs recorded 13 saves in the third and held Long Island scoreless in the second period with seven stops. He made a beautiful save to deny the Sharks on a breakaway chance. He stopped back-to-back stops with just under 10 minutes to play in the third, shutting down two LIU chances from right in front.
  • The junior also held the Sharks off the scoreboard in the first, making 10 saves.
  • Colgate started the second, killing a five-minute major after being assessed a game misconduct penalty. The Raiders also killed another two-minute penalty later in the period and went a perfect five-for-five in the game.
  • Colgate had its first power play chance with just over two minutes left in the first, but it could not capitalize.

GAME NOTES
  • Neumeier scored for the third straight game and is riding a four-game point streak.
  • Nagel increased his point streak to five games.
  • Colgate has won five straight home games and is now 7-1-1 at the Class of 1965 Arena.
  • The Raiders picked up their second sweep this season after doing the same at RIT Oct. 25-26.
