Colgate Falls to Mercyhurst in OT

Elyssa Biederman Logs Two Points

Box Score
ERIE, Pa. — Elyssa Biederman scored a goal and added an assist but the Raiders fell 4-3 in overtime to Mercyhurst on Saturday evening in Erie, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first eight minutes of the game were much less eventful than Friday's matchup.

Alexis Petford forced a tripping penalty halfway through the first frame but the Raiders were unable to convert on the ensuing power play. Colgate's best chance came from Emma Pais looking to slide the puck backdoor to Kaia Malachino but the Mercyhurst goaltender was equal to it.

The Raiders forced Mercyhurst deep in its own defensive zone for the majority of the first period earning another power play with just under two minutes left in the first period.

Colgate took advantage just ten seconds later as Pais slid a cross ice pass to Elyssa Biederman who calmly feathered the puck to Neena Brick. Brick made no mistake putting the puck into the open net and giving the Raiders a deserved 1-0 lead after the first period of play.

After taking an early penalty, Colgate was able to keep Mercyhurst at bay to get back to even strength. Just after the penalty expired Mercyhurst was able to score the tying goal after a miscommunication behind the net allowed the puck to squirt out front to a Laker stick.

Colgate's best chance of the second period came with just under ten seconds left. Pais found a little room in the high slot and fired a shot that was waffleboarded over the glass.

Two minutes into the third frame, after Biederman ripped a shot off the post, Kristýna Kaltounková picked up the puck behind the Mercyhurst net and passed in front to Biederman who poked it home to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.

With just under ten minutes left in the third, Mercyhurst was able to tie the game up at two after a bouncing puck in the high slot was fired past Hannah Murphy.

Mercyhurst found a third just two minutes later with a shot just inside the right face-off circle.

With under three minutes to play Alexis Petford buried her first goal as a Raider after a shot from the point fell on the doorstep for Petford who slapped it home sending the game to overtime.

Halfway through the overtime frame Mercyhurst was able to capitalize on a rebound and net the winner.

Hannah Murphy finished with 25 saves and Elyssa Biederman logged two points in the game.
