Raiders Beat Vermont On The Road, 3-0

Colgate Gets First Win of The Season

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Two goals in quick succession to begin the second half, powered the Raiders past Vermont 3-0 on Thursday night at Virtue Field earning Colgate its first win of the season.

Bezanson nets her second of the season, Greenholz provides two assists, and Colgate's defense holds potent Vermont attack to just one shot on target.

COACH HOKANSON'S COMMENTS

"I'm incredibly proud of this team win. Vermont is a very good team and this is a challenging place to play. It helped scoring early to build confidence for the team, though I felt they had the better of us toward the end of the first half. I thought the team managed some halftime adjustments really well, and a few insurance goals helped us to get a grip on the game in the second half. It was great to see some attacking moments come together for us, and contributions from a bunch of different players. I'm just so happy with the way every single person on our roster contributed to this result tonight, and it's a huge boost for us heading into a grueling stretch of games over the next two and half weeks."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cate Childers opened the scoring just five minutes into the match netting her first career goal. Paige Foa found the ball just inside the Vermont 18-yard box with a defender on her hip. Foa was able to swivel to her right and lay the ball into the path of Childers who calmly tucked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

Alli Popham scooped up a handful of wayward through balls but the Colgate defense was able to keep the Vermont offense at bay.

Jordan Juetten picked off a pass from the Vermont goalkeeper finding the feet of Ana Schremp who fired a shot towards the top right corner. The Catamount keeper was equal to it and the Raiders remained ahead 1-0.

The Raiders outshot Vermont 7-5 but the Catamounts edged the Raiders 4-2 in corner kicks.

Ari Bezanson netted her second goal of the season in the 50th minute doubling the Raiders lead early in the second half. After a corner kick fell to the feet of Maya Greenholz on top of the box, a deflected pass quickly fell to Bezanson who poked the ball into the right corner.

The Raiders weren't done there, Ellie Stokes used her pace, getting to the Vermont goal line before cutting the ball back to Jordan Juetten inside the six yard box. Juetten had the entire goal to aim at giving the Raiders a 3-0 lead just ten minutes into the second half.

Colgate remained tidy on the ball and compact defensively allowing just one shot on goal for Vermont the entire match. The Raiders earned their first win of the season defeating the Catamounts, 3-0.

Alli Popham started in goal, playing the first half and finishing with a clean sheet. Ella Poppinga played the second half, making one save and earning a combined clean sheet with Popham.
