Colgate Falls to Kent State, 3-2

Darby Campbell and Paige Foa Net Goals for Raiders

HAMILTON - Colgate fell 3-2 to Kent State on Sunday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Darby Campbell's 71st minute equalizer helped the Raiders get back on level terms late in the match.

After Paige Foa's first half goal, the Raiders allowed two goals just ten minutes into the second half before Campbell chipped the goalkeeper late in the second half.

COACH HOKANSON'S COMMENTS

"Gutted for the game to finish the way it did. There will be plenty of lessons to learn, but some good things that we did too. Proud that the team responded after their two second half goals to find an equalizer. Now we just have to continue to improve weathering challenging moments and finishing games for a full 90 minutes. Credit to Kent St for finding a way, they are a tough team and we will benefit from the challenge that was today."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Just over ten minutes into the opening half, Alli Popham made a huge stop after a controversial decision by the assistant referee to leave his flag down. The Kent State striker tried to sneak the ball past Popham's short side but the Raider keeper was equal to it.

In the 21st minute, Paige Foa found the ball at her feet after a deflection off a Kent State defender just ten yards away from goal. On the swivel, Foa hit a snapshot with her left foot, rolling past the Kent State goalkeeper giving the Raiders a first half lead.

With just seven minutes left in the first half, Kent State got in behind the Raiders defense but Popham again stood tall with a strong right arm save deflecting the ball away from danger.

Colgate took a 1-0 lead into half, while Kent State edged the Raiders in shots 2-1. Alli Popham made two big saves in the first 45 minutes.

The Raiders began the second half on the front foot forcing two consecutive corner kicks and pinning the Golden Flashes deep into their own defensive third.

Kent State scored the equalizing goal six minutes into the second half, after a through ball found the feet of the Golden Flashes' striker, it was tucked into the bottom right corner.

The Golden Flashes took a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute after a penalty kick was converted.

In the 67th minute, Ari Bezanson found an opening on the top of the 18-yard box to shoot but the Kent State goalkeeper made a comfortable save.

Moments later in the 71st minute, Darby Campbell picked off the Kent State goalkeeper's clearance and quickly clipped the ball over the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper, equalizing for the Raiders.

Kent State scored the winning goal on a 30-yard shot with just 17 seconds remaining in the game.

Ella Poppinga made one save in the second half while Colgate got outshot 7-2.
