EASTON, Pa. — Kiley Shelton extended her hit streak to nine games while
Kara Fusco and
Jillian Herbst added a pair of base knocks in Colgate's 4-1 win against Lafayette. In the circle,
Bailey Misken struck out seven and only conceded three hits as the Raiders swept the season series against the Leopards.
Despite her stellar final stat line, Misken struggled in the opening inning when she allowed two Lafayette hits and the only earned run of the game.
After an error put a Leopard on first to start the second stanza, Misken quickly found her groove by retiring the next 11 batters, including four strikeouts.
Adrienne Nardone, Quinn Livesay, and Niamh Dougherty sent three shots deep into the outfield in the top of the second, but all fell just short of the wall which stranded Fusco on first.
Another Raider runner was left on base in the third inning, but Shelton knotted the score at one in the fourth with her fifth homer of the season.
With Misken continuing to handle the Leopard lineup, Colgate jumped ahead with a three-run fifth frame that began with a Fusco RBI single.
Dougherty sent a shot to third base two batters later, which was mishandled by Lafayette allowing Fusco and pinch runner Claire Whalen to scamper home.
Misken struck out two more batters across the final six outs, sealing her second-consecutive win and improving Colgate's Patriot League record to an even 3-3 on the season.
