Panetta Scores OT Winner

Colgate Secures Opening-Round Bye in ECAC Hockey Playoffs with 4-3 Victory

POTSDAM, N.Y. — Daniel Panetta's second goal of the evening sent the Raiders home with a 4-3 overtime victory over Clarkson Saturday at Cheel Arena.

"We found a way to win and accomplish our first goal of a top-four finish. We're now on to the next objective," said head coach Mike Harder.

With the win, the Raiders earned an opening-round bye for the ECAC Hockey playoffs and will host a best-of-three quarterfinal series the weekend of March 15.

Panetta scored the winner with 41 seconds remaining in the extra period. Nick Anderson passed to the sophomore, who skated to center ice before ripping a shot that hit off a Golden Knight stick and floated into the goal for his first career game-winner.

Neither side was able to put one in during the third. Colgate took a one-goal lead three times throughout the first two periods, but Clarkson kept coming back with an answer.

Panetta had given the Raiders a 3-2 advantage in the second when he fired a laser in transition off a pass from linemate Jake Schneider with 1:54 left. The Golden Knights responded 1:16 later with a goal from Anthony Romano.

Earlier in the second, Dom Foglia had put Colgate up 2-1. Labelle made a short pass to Ross Mitton, who played the puck to Foglia at the left point. The first-year ripped one into the back of the net with 13:36 left. Five and a half minutes later, Dustyn McFaul made it 2-2.

Noah Beck scored five minutes into the second for the Golden Knights to knot it up at 1-1. His goal came after Labelle got Colgate on the board with 40 seconds left in the first. Reid Irwin passed to Anderson, who won a battle against the boards behind the net and tapped it to Panetta. The sophomore wrapped around the goal and snuck a shot between the goalie and the right post.

Carter Gylander made 19 stops in goal, including seven in the third. He made a beautiful save on a Clarkson two-on-one breakaway in the final period, sprawling out to deny the Golden Knights.
