HAMILTON — Brady Hutchison's career day saw the junior wide out rack up a personal best 103 receiving yards, but four Raider turnovers soiled Colgate's Patriot League opener against Holy Cross in a 38-7 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior defensive lineman Andrew Taddeo jolted Colgate to life on the first Crusader possession of the game, bursting through the line to force a three and out from the visitors.
An interception from sophomore quarterback Jake Stearney on the ensuing drive cut a 15-play, 63-yard drive short in the red zone, but the Raider defense held strong only conceding a field goal on the other side of the ball.
Stearney responded after the interception by heaving the longest scoring play of his young career, a 57-yard toss to Hutchison on a flea flicker.
Holy Cross retook the lead after falling behind, 7-3, marching down the field in six plays capped by a 19-yard touchdown catch.
Sophomore returner Winston Moore nearly erased the deficit when he returned the kickoff back for a touchdown, but a holding call on the Raiders negated the game-changing play. Two plays later, another interception sealed a nine-point halftime deficit for the Raiders.
A fumble from Brendan Cassamajor turned it back over to the Crusaders after the Raider defense forced a three and out on Holy Cross' first possession out of half. The visitor's capitalized on the turnover with another touchdown through the air.
Holy Cross commanded the remainder of the game, outpacing Colgate with 230 total yards in the second half.
