Volleyball Rallies Against Loyola

After dropping first set, Raiders bounce back to defeat the Greyhounds, 3-1.

BALTIMORE -- Colgate (8-9, 6-1) defeated Loyola (6-10, 4-3) 3-1, for their sixth Patriot League win of the season. The squad was led by Abby Shadwick with 17 kills, Sydney Jones with 31 assists, and an overall .274 hitting percentage as a team.

COACH BAKER'S COMMENTS
"We found a way to get a road win against a strong and experienced Loyola team. This was a total team win. We had some great contributions off the bench. I liked our fight. We will get ready for another tough match on Sunday."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1 | Loyola 25 Colgate 17
The Raiders started the match neck and neck with the Greyhounds, where they were down 10-11 at the midpoint of the first, but a barrage of kills from Loyola proved to be too strong as they took the set 25-17. Rachael Martinez was the highlight of the first set with two service aces, but Colgate's .079 hitting percentage did them no favors.

Set 2 | Colgate 25 Loyola 22
Colgate bounced back to take the second set 25-22, led by four kills each from Milan Bayless and Shadwick. The Raiders held a slim lead for most of the set, but a clutch kill from Jones sealed the deal.

Set 3 | Colgate 26 Loyola 24
In a tight third set, the Raiders narrowly edged the Greyhounds 26-24. With the score tied at 24 apiece, Tiana Owens and Bayless each provided a kill to take the set, both assisted by Deren Cukur

Set 4 | Colgate 27 Loyola 25
The action remained tight, as another close set saw the Raiders prevail 27-25. Colgate was down set point twice, but kills from Shadwick and Owens were able to level the score both times. Owens and Maddie Rudolph blocked a shot to win the set and the match for the Raiders.

UP NEXT
The Raiders will return to action this Sunday, Oct. 13 for a league matchup with Bucknell at Cotterell Court, for the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
