Galin and Cristobal Lead the Way in West Point

The duo produced a quarter of Colgate’s wins at the Army Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Colgate women's tennis continued their fall campaign at the Army Invitational this weekend, with sophomore Amelia Galin and first-year Carina Cristobal leading the way for the Raiders with an appearance in the Flight A Quarterfinals.

The Galin/Cristobal duo accounted for two of seven total Raider wins in West Point, not including Galin's singles victory against Sacred Heart in a consolation matchup.

"That was three excruciatingly long days for the ladies with 18 of the best Division I teams in the northeast competing on seven courts," Head Tennis Coach Bobby Pennington said. "Our women just keep getting better, deeper and more talented every year."

A slow start on Friday saw only first-year Sophia Montero collect a win in Singles A Consolation play, defeating Seton Hall's number one, 8-4. On day two, Colgate rebounded thanks to Eliza Podlas' stellar play in Singles Flight D. The junior won two consecutive matches in her back draw beating competitors from Binghamton and Sacred Heart and earning a spot in the consolation quarterfinals.

In doubles action, the first-year combination of Montero and Gigi Bohan took down Marist in their opening contest before bowing out in the Round of 16. Galin/Cristobal marched to the quarterfinals of Flight A with consecutive victories against Stony Brook and Fordham before a narrow loss to the pair from NJIT.
