Men's Hockey Welcomes Six New Players for 2023-24

Raiders Add Four First-Years and Two Transfers

HAMILTON — Colgate men's hockey has announced the addition of six players, including four first-years and two transfers for the 2023-24 season.

The Raiders' incoming class consists of five forwards and a defender. They join 20 returning players from last year's ECAC championship team.

"We are excited to add six new members to our Colgate hockey family. The mix of four freshmen and two transfer students will serve to strengthen an already strong program. The credit for bringing in these six exceptional student-athletes goes directly to the culture built by Coach Vaughan. We could not be more thrilled to be welcoming them to campus this month," said Donald F. Vaughan Head Men's Hockey Coach Mike Harder.

The six newcomers are listed below in numerical order.

#11 Niko Rexine

Forward
Syracuse, N.Y.
Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL)

A 2021 graduate of Millbrook School, Rexine tallied 61 points by 30 goals and 31 assists during his high school career…won a national championship with the Rochester Coalition 18U AAA team in 2021…went on to play with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL, where he recorded a 61 point season, notching 17 goals and 44 assists….was named the 2021-22 NAHL Midwest Rookie of the Year and also got named to the All-Rookie First Team….played his final year of junior hockey with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL and logged 35 points by 13 goals and 22 assists…was named an assistant captain for the Lumberjacks toward the end of the season.

Philadelphia Rebels (NAHL)

Foglia is a 2020 graduate of Shattuck-St. Mary's…he logged 83 points by 18 goals and 65 assists during his time with the Sabres…spent two seasons in the NAHL, recording 15 goals and 36 assists in 114 career games…played his first season and the start of his second with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays where he tallied eight goals and 21 assists…was named an assistant captain for the Ice Rays…finished his junior career with the Philadelphia Rebels where he notched 22 points by seven goals and 15 assists in 42 games.

#16 Ryan Sullivan

Calgary, Alberta
Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL)

A 2020 graduate of Bishop Grandin High School, Sullivan played with the Calgary Buffaloes and helped the team win the 2019-20 Mac's Midget AAA Tournament championship…. was named the 2019-20 AMHL Top Defensive Forward and also earned the Buffaloes' Hardest Working award…played three seasons with the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL and notched 111 points in 118 career games, tallying 40 goals and 71 assists…earned the Kodiaks' Jr. A Rookie of the Year award in 2021-22…was the team's leading scorer during the 2022-23 campaign and got named Most Valuable Player….served as an assistant captain for two seasons with Camrose.
 
#22 Robby Newton

Milwaukee, Wis.
University of Wisconsin

Newton joins the Raiders as a transfer after playing the 2022-23 season at Wisconsin….he skated in seven games with the Badgers and tallied an assist during his first career game, helping Wisconsin to a victory over Lake Superior State….he also recorded five shots and blocked three shots…Newton is a 2019 graduate of University School of Milwaukee, where he notched 152 career points (68G, 84A) and helped the squad win the 2019 state championship…was a two-time First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference selection (2018, 2019)…also named a finalist for Wisconsin Player of the Year and Forward of the Year and was the conference Co-MVP in 2019…played the 2019-20 season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL), recording six goals and six assists…spent one year with the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)…finished his final two years with the Janesville Jets (NAHL), where he notched 17 goals and 40 assists in 87 games…served as an assistant captain during his final year with the Jets.

#24 Jake Schneider

Plymouth, Minn.
Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL)

Schneider is a 2021 graduate of Wayzata High School, where he tallied 52 points in 69 career games and helped the Trojans win the section championship in 2021…got named to the 2021 All-Conference Team and was the team's Offensive MVP that season…also earned the Hobey Baker Character Award and was an Academic Champion in 2021…went on to play for the Waterloo Blackhawks (USHL) during the 2021-22 season, where he tallied six goals and seven assists…played his final season with the Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL)…notched 35 points by 20 goals and 15 assists with the Spruce Kings.

#29 Brett Chorske

Edina, Minn.
Colorado College

Chorske joins Colgate as a transfer after playing two years at Colorado College…he appeared in 41 games during his time with the Tigers, tallying 12 points by six goals and six assists...scored five power play goals and also ripped 36 shots on goal… as a freshman he notched four goals and five assists…was a two-time NCHC All-Academic Team selection and Distinguished Scholar at CC (2021-22, 2022-23)...during his junior career he recorded 52 points (16G, 36A) in 50 games with the St. Cloud Norseman (NAHL) in 2020-21 … also played 58 games for the Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) and had 39 points (18G, 21A) in 2019-20… scored 11 goals and added 16 assists in 22 games for Edina High School as a senior in 2018-19... added seven points in six playoff games for Edina that season, helping the team win the Minnesota State Championship.
