Dakosty Adds Altland and McCrann to Staff

Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Stan Dakosty adds Devin Altland and Dalton McCrann

HAMILTON – Colgate football's return to the gridiron is approaching fast, and the coaching staff is filling out.

Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Stan Dakosty announced the addition of Devin Altland and Dalton McCrann to the coaching staff for the 2023 season. Altland will serve as the Defensive Quality Control while McCrann will have Offensive Quality Control duties.

"We're very excited to welcome Dalton and Devin to the Colgate football family," Dakosty said. "They are very talented and driven coaches that have worn multiple hats throughout their initial years of coaching at the collegiate level.

Altland most recently served as the wide receivers coach, video coordinator, and equipment staff at Millersville University for the past three years. With the Marauders, Altland monitored the development of the wide receivers while helping coordinated an offensive game plan. He also had direct oversight of football's community service engagements, operations, equipment, and film.

"I want to thank the Colgate Family for welcoming me with open arms, Altland expressed. "It's time for us to buckle in and get to work. Go 'Gate!"

Before working at Millersville, Altland spent a year at the Spring Grove Area School District, where he was the offensive coordinator and varsity assistant for the middle school's football program (March 2022-July 2021).

Altland started his coaching career as an equipment manager and offensive graduate assistant at his alma mater Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2018 and his Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2019.

McCrann comes to Hamilton after serving as the offensive line coach, academic coordinator, and football strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater Misericordia University for the past year. With the Cougars, McCrann coached offensive lineman Mark Welsh, who was All-Conference in the MAC during the 2022 season. Statistically, the MU offensive line averaged 157 rushing yards per game and four yards per carry under his guidance.

"I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Colgate football family," McCrann said. "The combination of elite academics, a great football tradition, and phenomenal people make this institution a special place."

Before fully guiding the offensive trenches, McCrann was a graduate assistant at MU, where he led the tight ends, fullbacks, and running backs, while also serving as the assistant offensive line coach.

McCrann started his coaching career at his other alma mater Bernards High School where he was a volunteer assistant football coach from June 2016-August 2019.

McCrann received his Bachelor of Arts in History in 2020 and Master of Business Administration in 2023 from Misericordia University.

"Dalton's offensive background, specifically with the offensive line, will be a great addition to that side of the ball," Dakosty went on. Devin also has an offensive background, but his jump to the defense this year shows his willingness to learn all aspects of the game.

"Both have recruited talented players to their previous schools and will play a big role in bringing the next great recruiting class to Colgate."
