Colgate Student-Athletes Shine in Latest NCAA APR Report

Ten Programs Earn Perfect APR Scores for 2021-22

HAMILTON – Nine Colgate University athletics teams earned perfect multi-year 1,000 scores in the NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rates (APR) released Tuesday afternoon, with all 25 programs scoring well above national standards.

Raider teams posting perfect scores in the multi-year format, which measures data collected over a span of four academic years (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22), include men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming and diving, golf, men's track, women's rowing, women's tennis, and volleyball. Every Colgate team posted a 985 or higher multi-year score, once again higher than the national standards.

"I continue to be impressed, inspired, and in awe of our student-athletes and their achievements," said Interim Vice President and Director of Athletics Yariv Amir '01. "Our student-athletes meet the challenge of Colgate's academic rigor and do so while also balancing high expectations in all aspects of their lives. Congratulations to the student-athletes on this accomplishment, and thank you to all of our campus partners that help support and guide their academic pursuits."

Teams with perfect scores for the 2021-22 cohort include men's and women's cross country, football, golf, men's lacrosse, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's rowing, women's hockey, women's tennis, volleyball, and softball. Every Colgate team posted a 985 or higher multi-year score, once again higher than the national average of 984.

Colgate's nine perfect multi-year scores ranked third among Patriot League member institutions. The Patriot League continues to lead the 32 NCAA Division I retention trends by conference. In the latest release of data by the NCAA, the League is second in APR and eligibility trends by conference.

The NCAA APR provides a real-time look at a team's success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

Every Division I sports team submits data to have its Academic Progress Rate calculated each academic year. The NCAA reports both single-year rates and four-year rates, on which penalties are based. APRs for each team are available online through the NCAA's searchable database.
