HAMPTON, Va. – Colgate Softball opened the Battle at the Bay Saturday morning with a 3-0 shutout over Buffalo. The second game of the day's doubleheader against Hampton was canceled due to the weather.
Senior
Bailey Misken pitched a complete six-inning game, allowing zero runs, one hit, and two walks. The Murrieta, Calif., native moves into fourth place all-time in strikeouts with 298 after striking out nine batters today.
Adrienne Nardone,
Taylor Ludwick, and
Quinn Livesay reached home plate to account for the Raiders' three scored runs.
Both offenses were quiet in the first three innings. The Raiders tried to make some noise in the top of the third, as
Kara Fusco and Nardone both singled but ultimately were left stranded on base.
Colgate broke the scoring drought in the top of the fourth after Livesay found herself on second base after two straight errors by the Bulls. The sophomore finally crossed home plate to put the Raiders up by one after senior Ludwick reached first base on an error.
Elizabeth Nitka brought home Ludwick in the next at-bat after singling to Buffalo's pitcher to bump the lead to 2-0. Nitka tried to score another run in the inning after advancing to third on a wild pitch but was called out at home to end any more offensive opportunities in the third for Colgate.
The Bulls tried to get their bats hot in retaliation, even reaching first base on an error, but flew out to center field to end the bottom of the fourth.
Colgate's third run came during the top of the fifth. After two quick outs, Nardone walked to finally get a Raider on base.
Steph Jacoby smacked a double to bring fellow senior Nardone home to push the lead to its eventual final score of 3-0.
Misken did her part, getting three strikeouts throughout the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to hold the Bulls scoreless till the game was called in the top of the seventh due to rain.
NOTES
- Colgate moves to 5-0 all-time against Buffalo after today's win.
