HAMILTON – The Patriot League has named Colgate Men's Basketball's
Braeden Smith its Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, announced Monday afternoon.
Smith was a shining star in guiding an offense that scored more than 90 points in back-to-back wins over Army and Holy Cross, averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. He connected on 50 percent of his shots (11-22) from the field and posted a 7.0 assist-turnover ratio with 14 assists to just two turnovers in the 2-0 week.
The freshman point guard scored 20 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season, in Colgate's 93-86 victory over Army last Wednesday. Smith connected on 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the arc while adding six assists and three assists in the balanced performance.
In Colgate's 96-73 victory over Holy Cross last Saturday, Smith scored 12 points to go with eight assists, four rebounds, and a pair of steals. He guided the offense to 30 assists, tying a program single-game record, and a season-high 41 made field goals in the win.
Smith leads the Patriot League with four Rookie of the Week honors this season. This is his second time earning the honor during the conference play (Jan. 3). The Seattle native is averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game with five 20-point showings this season.
